One of the best shortcuts to free up your time is to make use of automation tools. You can automate your social media posting and reputation monitoring, link building and analysis, meetings and appointments, marketing efforts, email lists, sales, and customer support. If you find yourself stressed out over the amount of work you have to do, consider that there is an automation tool available for it.

Teaching and tutoring English as a second language is a great way to make money online, not to mention open some doors for you to travel the world if you'd like. While full ESL (English as a Second Language) accreditation is recommended, as long as you’re a native speaker and have the ability to teach, there are people in countries such as Hong Kong or the UAE who are willing to pay upwards of $25/hr for you to tutor them English via Skype. Check out Indeed, Learn4Good and Remote.co for remote english tutoring jobs or sign up on a specialized site like VerbalPlanet or Chegg Tutors.
Working hard is important, and you might not have the chance to rest every day when you first start out, but it is important to know when you are overworked. Many people who buy from youth businesses do so because of the youthful component of what they do, a component built on energy and a fascination with everything they are learning. That energy and fascination can burn out very quickly if you are not well rested and ready to go. This is not to say that you should slack off, but that you should know when you are at a limit and celebrate progress when it occurs.

Digiday covers all things digital marketing for big brands. We especially love their site because we get to examine how digital marketing plays out on a much larger scale. Big brands are just like us — they too need digital marketing — and reading about them is fun! This helps us examine our digital marketing strategies from a different perspective and up our game.
"These days, I advise young entrepreneurs to see their current employer as an investor in their own business, while they grow their business on the side. One of my guests mentioned that a day job doesn't need to be seen as a bad thing as long as it helps you develop the skills, capital and/or network you'll need when you do decide to go out on your own. So, learn to see and appreciate the job as a means to an end."
Do you spend more time packing and unpacking your luggage than most of the people you know? Then you might be onto something! Travelling is one of the greatest passions of this age – the crazier and more nomadic, the better! If you have a knack for organizing memorable, authentic trips and enjoy the process of creating exciting day-to-day plans, why not do it for money? Become a travel consultant to help adventure-seekers plan their unforgettable holidays from A to Z and enjoy every second of your working day.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. Most of the software and apps you use on a regular basis are made by massive companies or established development studios. Well, yes. But many successful apps, particularly those in the Apple and Google stores, are created and marketed by individuals and small businesses. In fact, independent developers made $20 billion in the App Store in 2016 alone.

When someone enters a search query into a search engine about something relevant to your company, obviously you want to be one of the first results displayed. So how do you make this happen? Essentially, you need to make your website more appealing to search engines. Do this by using keywords that are commonly searched, backlinking your site, customizing the headline and description, etc.

Another important strategy is to build a network of support, both emotional and business-related. Entrepreneurs have a lot to worry about, and taking some of these tasks off your shoulders can help you focus on running your business. Many entrepreneurs will have a support group that includes an accounting or financial expert, a marketing consultant of some type, and a mentor that can provide advice and guidance.

The internet has made it possible for people from different parts of the world to be registered in the same library. Online library (e – library) is a resource center where you can comfortably conduct a thorough research and study from the comfort of your home no matter the part of the world you live in as long as you have internet enabled device (smartphones, computers, notebooks, tablets et al). People pay registering fees and of course membership fees to make use of online libraries. You can start your own online library (e – library) and attract membership from different parts of the world.
"This common mistake could also be framed as an inspiration/perspiration problem. We’re so inspired by the end result that we forego the process — a lot of which is hard, un-fun work. In turn, we sacrifice the best possible outcome. And this is painful because the solution is retrospectively so obvious: patience. Take time with each new idea; flesh it out; design it fully; have a plan and not just hope."
To change the world: Many entrepreneurs strive to make the world better. Whether entrepreneurs believe in space exploration, eliminating poverty or creating a practical but game-changing product, they ultimately build a brand in service of others. Some entrepreneurs use their business as a way to raise capital quickly to funnel into their noble causes. To social entrepreneurs, building an empire is about creating a better world for everyone.
Different online income streams to begin your online business could be ebooks and online courses, niche websites, membership programs, software development, consultation programs and packaging existing content to sell as a bundle. Ducker says “It all comes down to knowing who you’re helping, what their problems are, and most importantly – creating a solution to a problem that they will happily part with a little hard earned cash for.”
Shepper says users are fully insured, and it takes precautions to ensure your safety, including reviewing every booking that it receives. It may be worth taking extra steps too, such as telling a friend or family member where you'll be and arranging to contact them after you finish the job. Remember to trust your instincts – if you feel uncomfortable with any job, simply leave.
This term means the “channel-free” approach to selling, where you offer products to customers to purchase directly from your website. Some companies will enable you to host your online store on their website for free. In other cases, you will need to build your sales website yourself. One area of the market that has used direct selling to great success is service providers, e.g., low-cost travel companies offering customers an option to purchase tickets directly from the website.

Wall says to start with an easily understandable privacy agreement in plain English, instead of official legally binding jargon that readers will glaze over. Make sure the information is made clear to mobile users as well, and any other platform in which you capture information. Finally, your company is responsible for safeguarding all user data that you collect. This means using the information in the limited parameters your user agreement stated, and keeping your client data private.
Another online service that is close related to translator services is transcription services. If you are good at transcribing, then you can help several public speakers, preachers and teachers et al write their books by simply transcribing their video or audio teachings. You can as well source for transcription jobs from online platforms such as freelancer.com, elance.com and oDesk.com.
You can sell your ebooks through Amazon's Kindle program or Apple's iTunes Connect, which gives you access to a large majority of the digital-book reading market and the barriers for entry are incredibly low. You don't need to invest lots of money to make this happen, but you do need to invest lots of time, not only in writing the ebooks, but in marketing them as well.
Don't let that stop you from starting a blogging business. There are lots of very successful bloggers out there – we're talking 5 and 6-figure-a-month levels of success. What you absolutely must avoid doing is starting a blog about “how to be a successful blogger.” How can you do that when you haven't achieved any success yet yourself? Faking it until you make it is not a business model we'd advise anyone to follow.
If you have graphic design skills then you could make money online by creating and selling your own design elements, like templates, fonts, graphics, and other assets. This is a great way to earn extra money and build up a portfolio of work, which could lead to you picking up freelance graphic design jobs. Websites like Envato Elements pay you a fee per element sold, which can become quite profitable if your work is popular.
Signing up with Google AdSense will enable you to make money from advertising on your blog. Google AdSense will place relevant ads around your site, and if your site visitors click on these ads, you will earn a fee. Although each click only amounts to small change, if your blog has high levels of traffic and lots of page views this will quickly amount to a reasonable sum.

If you want to have success, you can’t make success your goal. The key is not to worry about being successful, but to instead work toward being significant—and the success will naturally follow. If you do work that you love, and work that fulfills you, the rest will come. I truly believe that the reason I’ve been able to be so financially successful is because my focus has never, ever for one minute been money.
The benefit to freelancing is that you can take a skill you already have and turn it into a business. You know how to provide the service, so all you need to learn is how to market it. If you're known for your skill, finding clients can be easy. You can turn your former boss into a client, access your network for referrals, and more. But if you have trouble, the freelance sites can be a good source to jump-start your business.
4. Call tracking and analytics. You can’t improve upon what you can’t measure. Analytics provide a tremendous amount of incredibly useful data, such as where your website visitors come from, how long they stay, and what they do on your site. Google analytics is free and pretty darn good, and we recommend it. We also recommend you make sure you can track every lead that’s generated by your website.
The quote above comes from a ConversionXL article by Tommy Walker titled How To Calculate & Increase Customer Lifetime Value. Walker states that many businesses focus on transactional customer value, and in doing so forget to invest in the post-conversion experience. He recommends determining customer lifetime value and improving customer experience by offering a better post-purchase experience. Walker says Internet marketers should view every customer interaction as an opportunity to improve loyalty, find ways to build habits around your product, make it easy for customers to connect and “incorporate customer feedback to improve everything from user experience to product features & design.”

Canva’s blog started out as a hub for graphic design ideas and advice, but it has since evolved into an all-inclusive branding, social media, marketing, and design blog. As you can imagine, Canva takes visuals and design to the next level with their content, so it’s easy and enticing to consume. A great read for anyone looking to fine-tune their branding, design, and visual content knowledge.
They don’t fit into the corporate environment: Entrepreneurs don’t often thrive in corporate environments. It’s often very restricting for their growth. They may dislike the lack of control they have in their role or the office politics. In general, you can spot an entrepreneur in a corporate environment as they’re usually trying to gain more control in their role and learning their coworkers responsibilities to better understand how everything fits together.
"A few simple examples: Redesigning your logo or website a dozen times, setting up every social media account possible, trying to stay on top of said social media. And the list goes on. Instead, focus on revenue. Do the tasks that will increase revenue and reduce costs. Without a focus on that, your business is just a hobby." To add to what Preston had to say, I'd double down and emphasize that in order to even consider doing work that makes a difference, you need to building and leveraging your entrepreneurial strength every day.
A few years after founding Fit Brains, it was acquired by Rosetta Stone. In the process, I learned a lot about working with a large, corporate business. When Rosetta Stone approached me, they had a larger vision of how Rosetta Stone’s products and Fit Brains could join forces, and I knew it was a positive move for Fit Brains. I was lucky—the timing was right. However, you never know if the acquisition will go through right up until the end—so many things can pop up and derail the whole deal. Proceed with caution, and always have a plan to put in place for how to move forward should the deal fall through.
Sign up for a reputable affiliate network: Aside from Amazon, there are dozens of large reputable affiliate networks, such as Share-A-Sale, Clickbank, and Skimlinks, that specialize in connecting you with merchants who are looking for affiliates to sell their products. They charge relatively low commission fees for the privilege of connecting you with merchants, and the merchants on these sites tend to offer much higher commission percentages or set dollar amount payouts.
Your corporate blog, Facebook Business Page, Twitter feed and other social sites all serve as potential platforms for fielding customer inquiries, sourcing ideas for new content and enhancing your brand image on the web. Additionally, social content, such as tweets and YouTube videos, will be indexed by search engines, which help boost your content’s relevance and page ranking.
Do you constantly come up with witty one-liners? Do you dream of the days of Mad Men-style advertising? If you’ve got some branding chops or just come up with imaginative copy, there are lots of opportunities to make money online through company naming and slogan contests. If you think you have a knack for names check out the Squadhelp platform where you can earn a little extra money online by naming brands, services, products, company slogans and even help out on the logo design front if you've got the chops.
You'll also need ecommerce software, fulfillment software, worry about warehousing, customer service and refunds. But that's not all. You'll also need traffic. Think search engine optimization, Facebook ads, and other social media campaigns. It is hard work, especially on your own. You could opt for Amazon's platform, which might be the easier route. But, then again, at the end of the day, this is a serious business, which could produce significant profits. So you're either all in or you're not.
Webinars On Air is a powerful webinar tool that will enable you to create professional webinars for your viewers. Harnessing the power of Google Hangouts, this all in one solution will take care of all the technical aspects of hosting a webinar, including payments. Also have a look at our guide to the best webinar software, both free and paid options.
It’s right to be suspicious of free money. The way cash back sites like Ebates work is that they act as an affiliate for online merchants. When you buy a product from the merchant through Ebates, Ebates gets a commission. The trick is that cash back sites then give you a part of the commission they earn as cash back. That way it’s a win-win-win – the merchant gets a sale, Ebates gets paid, and you spend less cash on something that you were going to buy anyway.
If spending hours pinning images of gorgeous table arrangements and bouquets ideas on Pinterest is your definition of a perfect job, then you will make an exceptional wedding planner. Sharp project management skills and an eye for detail are pretty much the most important requirements for this job – no fancy diplomas to stop you from breaking into this industry! You can sell your consulting services, wedding decorations, game packages, personalized gifts – the list of possibilities is endless (well, almost).

Once you have a thorough profile of your customer, determining how and where to reach them is much easier. This step may take awhile, and that’s OK. If you start marketing before you have a clear customer profile though, you will likely be wasting your dollars in places that will never reach your customer. Just because Pinterest is growing rapidly, doesn’t mean your audience is the one making it grow.
Online and mobile dating are booming. Thousands of people around the world are looking for love online and, unfortunately, many are unsuccessful in their quest. As a dating coach, you’d be responsible for helping your clients to organize and prepare for a perfect date, to refine their flirting skills and to advise on the do’s and don’ts of a dating life.
When people think about business, it’s common to boil matters down to the finances. And it certainly is possible to use numbers to measure and predict the performance of a start-up business. Net worth, gross margin, customer acquisition cost – these can all be indicators of success. But, a start-up can post impressive numbers for a while, perhaps even attract large investors, and still shut down in the end. So does this make it a failure?
Instead, you’ll have to research the SEO optimization of the sites you see on auction, predict which companies and industries will be looking out for new domains, and get creative with out-of-the-box names that you can buy for little but turn around easily. Plus, patience is a virtue: it can take months, or even years, to get the right price (or any price!) for some domains you’ve purchased.

Merch by Amazon is another service offered by Amazon that will enable you to make money online without any initial outlay. To get started you need to create an account with Merch by Amazon. Then simply design some T-shirt logos or slogans, and upload them to your Merch account. You will need to choose a T-shirt type, color, and price, and Amazon will create product pages for each T-shirt. When someone makes a purchase, Amazon takes care of production and shipping. And you are paid a royalty for your design.
If every aspiring entrepreneur had the skills of Warren Buffett but lacked start-up money, they would still find themselves disadvantaged by the world in which they attempted to start their new business. In my case, I worked for the better part of 2 years on minimum wage before starting Quarry, and even that was an affordable business to start-up. I was eager to get out of the job, with my compensation simply not being enough for the work I was doing, and this is the unfortunate case for many young people with the business bug.
Naturally, the next one on the list is coaching people how to deliver great speeches. Public speaking is the number one fear on most people’s list – some fear it more than death! This skill can prove to be handy in many areas – from pitching to investors, to delivering key messages at global conferences. If you’re a natural on stage, help entrepreneurs rediscover their in-born ability to communicate by selling effective presentation templates and online coaching classes.
Whether it’s an important consumer application, a specialist app to solve a particular niche problem, or even a time-wasting game you can play on your phone, you can create a massively successful business if you build software that helps people. (Look at the rise of Slack—the team communication software that went from side project to billion-dollar company in just 2 years.)
The marketing automation coordinator helps choose and manage the software that allows the whole marketing team to understand their customers' behavior and measure the growth of their business. Because many of the marketing operations described above might be executed separately from one another, it's important for there to be someone who can group these digital activities into individual campaigns and track each campaign's performance.
Perhaps best known for their annual Social Media Marketing World gathering in San Diego, Social Media Examiner founder Michael Stelzner and his team help millions of businesses discover how to best use social media to connect with customers, drive traffic, generate awareness, and increase sales. Being a first-time entrepreneur can be challenging and nerve-wracking but also very exciting and rewarding. There is no end to the many financial, legal, staffing, marketing, and customer issues that will come up as you launch your business. A‎nd, unfortunately, there is a lot of conflicting advice out there for the aspiring entrepreneur. But here are 15 core tips to help you begin navigating the startup landscape:
If you have nothing of value to sell from home then retail arbitrage might be a better option for you. Many people partake in arbitrage to earn a little extra money, and for some, it has even become their full-time job. Retail arbitrage is the buying of goods at a low price and then selling them on a different platform at a higher price. Sales in shops provide ideal opportunities to pick up products for next to nothing. These can then be sold on eBay or Amazon for higher amounts, making you a nice profit.

There you have it – a  comprehensive guide to the best online businesses to start this year. We deliberately didn't cover ideas like app development or IT support because they require specialized skills. That's why we only provided you with businesses you can start with very little money. In fact, you can even start some of them with very little knowledge.

The quote above comes from his article, 11 Terrific Twitter Profile Designs for Inspiration, where he emphasizes the importance of standing out. He states that “we work, play and create in a digital ecosystem that defines you by your image online,” so brands need to carefully craft what they are on their online platforms and leverage the online real estate. For example, a brand or professional can utilize a Twitter profile to announce a new product, highlight a hashtag, promote a webinar or market a new look.
"It's not impossible to be a single founder but in my experience it is easier to be resilient and successful as a team." You can read more from Steve about how BuzzSumo achieved $2.5 million in revenue during their first year right here. I'd also recommend reading my post about starting a business with a friend, in case you're considering going that route.
The ultimate goal of digital marketing is to make your business more money. One of the most powerful tools marketers now use to achieve that is marketing personalization. The Monetate blog focuses on topics related to using marketing personalization to increase profits, including the technology you need to accomplish one-to-one marketing, tips for testing and general ecommerce trends.

So how do you get others to link back to your Website and Blogposts? There are lots of ways, but one of the most widely used by professional Internet marketers is known as guest blogging. Guest blogging is exactly what it sounds like, you work with another Blog in your niche (preferably one with a large following) and offer to write a Blog post for them that their (and your) audience will value. It is commonplace in guest blogging that the author will be able to get a link back to their own site, either at the beginning or end of the article, and can sometimes link to their Blog posts within the article itself, where the information is relevant. In many instances, the other Blogger will also reciprocate and guest blog on your Site, which is a Win-Win, because you now get quality content from a recognized blogger.

It’s an excellent opportunity to offer technical training courses that teach people how to learn a much-needed skill, or accomplish an important task. It could also prove to be an important testing ground for your educational courses. If you are able to market your course on the site, against direct competition, you may be able to direct marketing to the general public, using a website, videos, or even an affiliate marketing program.
"Creating a company is hard work, most startups fail. The one characteristic you need above all others is resilience. You need to be relentless and work harder than the competition, and even then you will have tough times. It is for this reason I have always started companies with more than one founder. It means there is someone to share the load, to reflect and to support each other."

If company blog posts aren’t your style, then consider working on ebooks instead. With Amazon and other websites around, self-publishing has never been easier than it is today. If you think you’ve got something interesting, useful, and worthwhile to say—and if you believe other people will think so, too—then writing ebooks could become a lucrative business.
They often expect you to commit to working a certain number of hours per week, which is generally part-time. They will pay you an hourly salary for that work, so it is really more of an at home job situation than it is in an entrepreneurial way to make money online. Still, if you want to get involved in political activity, and you have the time and motivation, this could be a way to monetize that passion.

Vasil is a super connector for entrepreneurs. He's the CEO of Startup Socials, a global community of entrepreneurs that connects and empowers professionals working in the startup ecosystem. He's also the founder of Growth Marketing Conference, Silicon Valley's largest digital and growth marketing event. Here's his best business advice for aspiring entrepreneurs who want to start a business:
There are a variety of tasks that you may be asked to perform. This can include delivering documents, delivering food or restaurant meals, taking pictures of a building for a real estate developer, taking pictures of a menu in an upscale restaurant, or even delivering auto-parts. If you have a good working car (or even a good bicycle), time on your hands, and a lot of energy, this can be a real opportunity to make money online.
"Guest blogging is one of the best marketing tools I've ever found," says Susan Payton, president, Egg Marketing & Communications. "By contributing to relevant blogs with useful content, you can expand your reach and show off your knowledge." Moreover, you can typically link to your website via your author bio, "making it easy for people to visit your site."
According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), it's been estimated that retail business will stay on par with a 3.7 percent to 4.2 percent growth rate. However, the NRF expects non-store sales to be anywhere from three to four times that rate of growth. However, even though brick-and-mortar sales still comprise the majority of consumer's spending, it's only expected to grow at roughly 2.8%. Clearly, what's driving much of our present ecommerce growth is the smartphone market.
This site is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I am a fit and frisky 56 y.o. single dad working 2 jobs, with an unquenchable thirst for learning new things. I’ve been surreptitiously studying the New Thought writers (from Atkinson to Proctor right up to some of the really sharp, young people creating YouTube videos). I think I’m getting a grip on the self-motivation and metaphysics of the whole thing, but am too scattered to decide exactly what kind of business to start! many of your 27 ideas I have some familiarity with (one of my old army buddies got me in to Bombardier Transport in early 2011 for 3 months to help meet a deadline on some tech pubs…it was a lot of fun! I was told I’m a natural, but could not find any more jobs in that sector….Oy Gevalt). Anyway, thank you so much for this site! I can give you a progress report every few months or so (including showing you how any websites I may be creating are doing). Happy New Year!
Bill has over 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur and operating executive. Since joining Garage Technology Ventures in 1998, Bill has worked with his partner, Guy Kawasaki to focus on investing in early-stage information technology and materials science companies. Here's Bill's best business advice for young entrepreneurs who want to start a business for the first time:
There are loads of people out there who are looking for graphic artists to contract their graphics jobs to. If you are a graphic designer, then you can take your services online. You just have to be proactive and aggressive in marketing your services. One good thing about offering graphics services online is that you can sign a long term business deal with just one clients especially if you are good at what you do.

Freelancing via the Internet is a great way for experts in their individual trades to help a variety of clients overall. Several freelancing and project-based websites let businesses that need extra help to list their projects. Small businesses and freelancers offer proposals, ideas, or bids, whereby the buyers can easily choose what they want and need. Sites like Elance or Upwork cover just about everything including writing content, creating graphic design, programming, and data entry.
If you enjoy helping people but don’t want to be stuck in a call center or office all day, become a remote customer service agent and help people from the comfort of your own home. Choose between helping people via chat, email, phone, video, or other ways and save the day for people every day. This may not make you your first million, but it feels great to help people.
Once you have one or two samples to show prospective clients, it's then time to find some. Sites like Freelancer and Upwork are good places to start out. But you don't need to stick to the same path taken by every other freelance writer. Use some lateral thinking to find clients. Join relevant groups on Facebook or LinkedIn. Have a look for forums dedicated to web development, digital marketing or SEO – there's almost always a “writers for hire” section you can use to find new clients.

Here's what Steli has to share as far as business advice for aspiring entrepreneurs who want to start a business today:

If you can speak and write two or more languages whether foreign or local languages, then you can comfortably list your services online as a translator. There are many authors of books and producers of films et al who wouldn’t mind translating their books to local dialects or other foreign languages once they can get someone to do it for them at an affordable fee. You can visit elance.com, freelancer.com, oDesk.com and other freelance sites to source for translating jobs.

Reed McManigle: Each of the examples you mention have been under development in universities for decades before becoming 'overnight successes'. The pace and breadth at which they are now being deployed masks the long history that led to this. I would put AI/ML and robotics at the top of the list of technologies 'whose time has come' in terms of corporate and investor interest.
So, where are we supposed to turn to make money the legitimate way online? This isn't just about generating passive income; this is also about finding ways and means to create an active income through the conveniences afforded to us by the internet that will not only help us with our debt obligations, but also empower us to save, invest and get really rich in the future.
